Winter League Playoffs

The 2023 - 2024 Southwest Division Winter League regular season has completed and the Playoffs​ were held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 starting at 9:00am at

Trial bowls for the first match started at 8:55am. Check-in for rink assignments was at 8:30am sharp. Players arrived from 8:00 onwards for practice bowls in a direction perpendicular to the bowls direction.

Playoff Format
2 standard Winter League 15-end (5/5/5) Pairs Matches . Winner advanced (or wins). A rinks one-end bowl off to break ties (flip to determine mat). A neutral rink will be selected with NO TRIAL BOWLS. Winners and runner's up in each league received trophies.

Regular Season

The 2023 - 2024 Southwest Division Winter League regular season is underway. We have 10 Gold Teams divided into two divisions and 13 Silver Teams divided into 3 divisions. Each team plays a total of 6 matches at home and away clubs to qualify for season-ending playoffs scheduled for Saturday, January 27th, weather permitting.

Scorecards

Captains please print out this scorecard sheet, cut them into 3 scorecards (there are lines you can follow) and bring a bunch of them to the matches. Best that these be printed on card stock or else they'll be thrashed by the end of the match (especially if it's damp). To print, download the PDF and print them on your printer.

Introduction


​This site will keep you informed of all the rules, updated standings, contact information, and match schedule. First, read the rules!

Please Email us with a team list. Include:
  1. league (gold or silver)
  2. home club
  3. team name
  4. team members: name, cell phone, email address, (captain or alternate)
  5. the date and time of your club's AGM

Each team must be composed of at least 4 people and must be from the same club. It is highly recommended that each team be composed of 6 people, because if you lose any, you can't add any more at a later time.  You'll have to supplement with your club pool players. Remember, many matches are played during the Holidays when people are unavailable.

Every team will be playing 6 matches on weekends (mostly Saturdays) during December, January, and possibly February. There is a Gold League that is pretty much composed of tournament bowlers and a Silver League for the rest (experienced or not). How the schedule is set up depends on who and how many teams sign up.
 
It doesn’t matter if the club is your primary or secondary (or tertiary, etc) club, you can play for that one and only one club. A person can't sub for multiple clubs. A person cannot be on two teams. Though there is no limit to the number of people who can be on a team, we would hope that if a team has 12 or so people willing to play that they would be broken up into 2 teams.

Each club should form pool of bowlers that can substitute for any club team should it be needed. These substitutes can’t play singles or skip. Subs for a club can substitute for both Silver and Gold League teams of that club. If you're on a Silver League team roster, you can substitute on a Gold League team (but not vice-versa). Bowlers who have finished in the top 3 in a SW points event in the last five years are not allowed to play in a Silver League game, with one exception:  Novices are always eligible for Silver League play. The enclosed 2023 Winter League Rules go into more detail and have some other interesting rules that should make things run smoothly, so please read them.
 
Significant Winter League Dates:
  1. Friday Nov 17 – Team entry deadline.
  2. Friday Nov 24 – Schedule and playoff structure determined and distributed to every club and participant
  3. Saturday Dec 2 – First Winter League matches are played.
  4. Saturday Jan 28 – Winter League Playoff matches held
